Enterprise Management Transformation: Understanding the new era of leveraging internal control

Thursday, May 11, 2017

Crowne Plaza (Gatineau)

Speakers Biographies

Building on last year's successful theme, Integration and horizontal collaboration between enterprise-level systems, processes and people is a continuing focus. These are core elements that drive enterprise management transformation, of which financial management is a part. This PD Day will explore new directions emanating from Enterprise Management Transformation, the emerging requirements in financial, HR and procurement systems, and how risk-based internal controls have become a key success indicator.

This PD Day will highlight how the management of big data (financial, policy, HR etc.) is becoming increasingly important to this transformation. We will hear the challenges in providing assurance (for accuracy, reliability, accessibility and timeliness) in a standardized way. Participants to this PD Day will have the opportunity to learn how departmental maturity in implementing a number of TB policies, including the Policy on Internal Control, directly relates to their transformation results. The direction and leadership emanating from central agencies on continual enhancement through the establishment of common data elements, common business processes, and move to common configuration and how they work with other enabling sectors, such as IT, HR, will be featured. We will hear from departments on their successes and challenges to meet the rapidly changing requirements.

This PD Day will be of interest to those who are currently involved in Internal Control, Financial Systems, Audit and those who provide Advisory Services, as well as to those who are clients of these functions, and those who wish to hone their skills in this area. Join us for this very interactive professional development day!

Financial Management Supporting the Government's Agenda - How it all Works

Thursday, June 15, 2017

Crowne Plaza (Gatineau)

To close the FMI-Capital Chapter's programming season, we will hear about how a current theme of the Government of Canada's agenda, a winter/spring budget announcement or new initiative is played out! We will examine the roles and responsibilities of departments, the Prime Minister's office / Privy Council Office, Department of Finance and the Treasury Board Secretariat as the theme is worked out. The exact theme will be chosen closer to the day.

The day will focus on developing the government's agenda through the Speech from the Throne and the Federal Budget and on translating government priorities into action through Memoranda to Cabinet and Treasury Board submissions. The parliamentary process will be touched upon. The day will also include the requirements of Departments and particular those of Chief Financial Officers and ADMs of Corporate Services Branches to manage this process and the challenges and opportunities faced by them in their operations to align to the emerging requirements.  Participants will learn the key steps in the financial process, from funding initiation to public reporting, the financial roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of key stakeholders in the government's departments and agencies.

Looking forward to seeing you at this informative event you cannot miss! This PD Day will be of interest to those who are new entrants to the public service (and are aspiring to be young leaders), those currently are involved in strategic policy, budget submissions, or financial strategies; those who are clients of these functions, and those who wish to hone their understanding of interactions between departments and central agencies.
