Public Service Agency (BCPSA)
Derek Cockburn, CPA CGA, PCMP Cert., is
currently on a temporary assignment as the Senior Manager,
Financial Management within the Financial Management Office of the
British Columbia Public Service Agency (BCPSA). During this
assignment, Derek is responsible for the daily financial operations
of the BCPSA, as well as being the financial liaison for
payroll-related systems projects and related audits.
Derek has spent ten years providing procurement and contract
management advice to the economic sector, which includes the
Ministries of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training (JTST);
International Trade (MIT); Community, Sport and Cultural
Development (CSCD); Small Business and Red Tape Reduction (SBRT);
and, the tourism crown corporation Destination BC (DBC).
Prior to this, Derek spent fifteen years in both ministries and
central agencies working in auditing, financial training and
strategic planning. Before joining the public service in 1992,
Derek held financial positions in private sector firms, ranging in
size from a small privately held company to a major international
Derek holds his CPA, CGA designation (BC), PCMP Certification
(Province of BC) and a B.Comm. in Finance (major) and Accounting
(minor) from Concordia University in Montréal.
Derek is involved in many cross-government committees, as well
as a volunteer in several community-based organizations. He has
been a dedicated member of the FMI Victoria Chapter for many years,
holding basically every position on its local Board. Since December
2016, Derek sits on the fmi*igf National Board of Directors as
Secretary-Treasurer. In his free time, Derek enjoys the outdoors
and spending time with his daughters.
