John Dinn

Eastern Regional Manager/Workplace Mental Health Program Coordinator. CMHA-NL

John Dinn has had a 28-year career in the field of mental health and addictions, having worked in various roles, departments, and community programs with the Waterford Hospital, in St. John’s since 1988. He has held positions as the Social Services Worker with the hospital’s Social Work Department; Special Care Coordinator with the Waterford’s Homes for Special Care; Job Opportunities Officer with the Occupational Therapy Department, Social Assistance Worker with the hospital’s community based Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program; Housing Coordinator with the Strengths Team Case Management Services; and Departmental Program Coordinator for Housing with the Waterford’s Housing Division.

He joined the Canadian Mental Health Association – Newfoundland and Labrador Division in 2016, full filling the role of Workplace Mental Health Coordinator for the past 7 years and is currently the Eastern Regional Manager.

John is a registered Social Worker having graduated from Memorial University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Bachelor of Social Work in 2007, and Master of Counselling Psychology, in 2007. He also holds a certificate in Primary Health Care from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia; specialized training in Strengths-Based Case Management from the School of Social Welfare, University of Kansas, and is a Canadian Mental Health Association certified Psychological Health and Safety trainer. He is also a Mental Health Commission of Canada certified Mental Health First Aid facilitator for Adults, Youth and Seniors, and Working Mind facilitator.

In addition, John is a certified Master Trainer and Silver Pin holder for ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and a Safe Talk trainer for Living Works. He is also a certified trainer for the CMHA’s Co-Workers First course, a CMHA’s Resilient Minds trainer for Community Workers, and a trainer for CMHA’s national award-winning program, Mental Health Works.

John is very passionate about mental health and enjoys sharing knowledge and learning with participants to promote mental well being. In his spare time, he likes to spend time on walks or at local dog parks with his two Norwich terriers, Lucy, and Finn.
