The Nova Scotia Chapter (FMI NS) has been providing PD to the public sector community since 1989. We host learning events and networking opportunities focusing on financial management issues that impact all levels of government. Our community includes public-sector employees as well as those interested in the public sector in Nova Scotia. Our speakers and workshop leaders are usually NS based and cover a wide range of topics pertinent to all levels of the public sector in the province.

Our Learning Events – Our half-day learning event season runs bi-monthly from October to June and incorporates a variety of PD topics (see sample list of 2017-19 events attached). In addition to guest speakers on key topics of the day, FMI NS also hosts specialized interactive workshops for our community to help develop practical skills that they can use, day-to-day, in their work environments. For CPAs, our events typically offer 3 hours of verifiable Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits. On June 8-9, 2020, FMI NS will be hosting FMI’s annual Public Sector Management Workshop (PSMW) event, a national 2-day PD conference and networking opportunity, right here in Halifax.

Who Should Attend – although primarily focused on the PD needs of financial professionals in the public sector, our speakers and workshops attract a wide variety of participants from all sectors. The typical fee for a ½ day session is $75 which includes a free FMI annual membership.

Benefits of Joining the FMI Community – in addition to offering the opportunity to learn about key issues facing public sector operations (both financial and non-financial) in Nova Scotia, our events offer the chance to network and exchange ideas and experiences with other public-sector focused colleagues from all levels of government, academia, not-for-profit, and private sector participants. Membership is free and you can join our community to receive notifications about our events but contacting us (below) or filling in your information at: https://fmi.ca/about-us/membership/

Benefits of Joining the FMI NS Chapter Board – FMI NS is always looking for interested parties to join our Board and help continue to build our programming, outreach and networking opportunities. Most of our Board meetings are run virtually with the occasional face-to-face meeting. The time commitment is typically 2-3 hours per month. In return for their contribution, Board members receive complimentary registrations for all FMI NS events.
