Ontario Chapter – RESCHEDULED – BEYOND COVID: HOW TRENDS ARE IMPACTING THE PUBLIC SECTOR FINANCE COMMUNITY AND HOW WE CAN SHAPE THE POST PANDEMIC FUTURE

Webinar presented by The Financial Management Institute of Canada’s Ontario Chapter.

As public servants we are constantly working to create the greatest good for our communities. Identifying and understanding the disruptions and influences affecting Ontarians can better position us to effectively work to create policies and programs that will boldly move Ontario into the future.

At this presentation, Canadian Economist and Canada’s first ever Parliamentary Budget Officer, Kevin Page will discuss this topic using a top down approach. He will share what the predicted public sector finance trends are, along with how they are developed, the government’s role in incenting behavior, avoiding unexpected outcomes and knowing which ones will endure, dissipate and evolve.

Rohinton Medhora serves as the President of the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI)and the Chair of the Ontario Workforce Advisory Committee (OWAC). Assembled by the Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, the OWAC’s mandate was to provide recommendations to shape the future of work in Ontario, around the themes of economic recovery, strengthening Ontario’s competitive position and supporting workers. Their recent report synthesized feedback from over 700 Ontario stakeholder groups, and discussed the intersecting trends of technological change, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and workforce recovery. Rohinton will share an overview of this project and further discuss the report’s 3 themes and 21 recommendations. He will also discuss how the findings can be used by the public sector finance community to create a better future for Ontarians.
